Praying for Your Loved Ones

We live in a time where it seems our culture does not care about Truth. Even parents who raised their children in Christian homes are seeing their young adults walk away from

the faith. As I pondered this, a friend reminded me of the prayers in Ephesians and I have started praying these over family members. Whether loved ones are currently walking with the Lord or not, the impact of praying Scripture over them yields powerful results.

Here is a prayer fashioned from Ephesians 1:17-19:

I pray that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give to [loved one’s name] the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Him, having the eyes of his/her understanding enlightened; that he/she may know what is the hope of His calling and the riches of the glory of His inheritance and the exceeding greatness of His power toward him/her.

Another prayer comes from Ephesians 3:16-19:

Father, grant [loved one’s name], according to the riches of Your glory, to be strengthened with might through Your Spirit in the inner man, that Christ would dwell in his/her heart through faith; that he/she would be rooted and grounded in love, and able to comprehend with all believers what is the width and length and depth and height – to know the love of Christ which passes knowledge; that he/she may be filled with all the fullness of God.

Psalm 1 provides another scripture to pray over loved ones in faith (verses 1-3):

Blessed is [loved one’s name], who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor stands in the path of sinners, nor sits in the seat of the scornful; but his/her delight is in the law of the Lord, and in His law he/she mediates day and night. [Name] shall be like a tree planted by rivers of water, that brings forth fruit in season. His/her leaf shall not wither, and whatever he/she does shall prosper.

Use the prayers above or formulate your own from whatever translation best suits you. The power of praying scripture over your family will be one of the best gifts you could ever give and can yield eternal rewards.

If you have been praying prayers of faith over loved ones and have already seen the Lord move, please share in the comment section. Your testimony will encourage others still praying these prayers of faith.
